Dog Whisperer’s Sidekick Banned From Canadian Tour
Cesar Millan, otherwise known as the Dog Whisperer, is not bringing his sidekick Junior along for his 11-city Canadian speaking tour. It’s not because he wants to tour solo – it’s because Junior, a Pit Bull, is banned from Ontario and other provinces.
Millan’s enormously popular National Geographic TV show demonstrates dog training and rehabilitation techniques. After Millan’s original sidekick, Daddy, died earlier this year, Junior became his successor. Both of the well-behaved Pit Bulls have served as ambassadors for the much-maligned breed.
Millan has not commented on why he chose to bring his tour to locations that ban Pit Bulls. In the past he has spoken against breed-specific legislation. In a story recently published in the Ottawa Citizen, he said, “You don’t solve the problem by banning something. The problem transfers to another breed. In the ’70s it was the Doberman in America, in the ’90s it was the Rottweiler. In 2000, it’s the Pit Bull. Banning things creates an ignorant, fearful society.”
